As it approaches its five-hundredth anniversary, Jakarta stands
at a critical historical juncture. With the enactment of Law
Number 2 of 2024 concerning the Special Region of Jakarta
(DKJ) and the relocation of the national capital to Nusantara
(IKN), the city is compelled to redefine its future. It would be a
moment for new beginning as Jakarta enters the sixth century.

Draw on the urban metabolism concept, the authors argue that
Jakarta has been experiencing overcapacity and entrapped
them into classical urban problem for decades. As suggested
